However, you can buy your tickets at the Dévoluy Tourist Offices.
On-site sales are also available on the evening of the concert, from 8.30pm.
It is one of the most modestly proportioned examples of Romanesque art. Although the date of construction is still uncertain, it is a shingle-roofed chapel for the Lord’s house, with two thatched-roof apsidal chapels.
The single nave has three arched bays and ends in a semi-circular apse topped by a cul-de-four.
In the past, the church was decorated with murals dating from the early 16th century, of which only a few fragments remain today: on the side aisles, the four Evangelists, Saint George slaying a dragon and, on the inside of the west façade, a painting depicting the Last Judgement.
The gallery dates from 1663. It is made of wood painted with “boris”, a clay-based paint used to mark sheep. On the main beam at the back is a scale and the Old French inscription “Pêcheur, en entrant dedans l’église, souviens toi que tu es en la présence de Dieu” (“Fisherman, as you enter the church, remember that you are in the presence of God”).
There are also symbolic symbols and insignia: crosses and signs of the zodiac, suns and moons, Maltese crosses and monstrances.
The reclining fleurs-de-lis mark opposition to royalty; it was the start of the revolution and the people of Dévoluy were no strangers to the movement.
This summer, you can once again visit this architectural jewel. More information to follow.
