Hike to The Baumes ridge For a 360° view

There are places where the landscape stands on its own! The Crête des Baumes is one of those places where you can enjoy the fullness of your walk.
At the summit, take a turn on yourself, in one direction and then the other, and you won’t regret the few metres of ascent you’ve made!

A walk worth the diversions

Nestling between the resorts of Superdévoluy and La Joue du Loup, the Crête des Baume offers a 360° view of the whole massif. Halfway between the two resorts, the spot overlooks the Collet du Tat.

At the summit, the giants of Dévoluy offer a breathtaking spectacle. To the north, l’Obiou sets the scene, with an endless line of ridges to its left as far as Garnesier. To the south, the Pic de Bure, the massif’s emblem, is home to the most powerful observatory in the northern hemisphere: NOEMA. To the east, the barrier formed by the Lieraver and Farraud mountains seems impassable. In fact, only the Col du Noyer provides a link between Dévoluy and Champsaur on fine days.
Also take a look at the Saint Gicon mountain, a real springboard that hides behind it the Lac du Sautet and the Pellafol plain.

It’s a landscape reading with a 100% wow factor!

To each its itinerary

From the Superdévoluy or La Joue du Loup resorts, put on your snowshoes and follow the pink markings to the Collet du Tat. After just over 100 metres of ascent, you’ll reach the collet, where you’ll already be able to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view.

Look up on your right from Superdévoluy, or on your left from La Joue du Loup, and you’ll be staring at the Baumes ridge. All in all, you’ll have another hundred metres of ascent to make. These may be steeper, depending on the route you choose… Don’t think too much about it – once you’re up there, you won’t want to come down!

Living in the massif, I have to say that this is one of my favourite walks! It’s easy to get to, but you still get a great view of the whole of Le Dévoluy. When it has just snowed, the walk through the white forest is magical! Not to be missed, summer or winter. 😀
