1450m – 2450m Altitude, and 100 km of pistes makes the Dévoluy ski area one of the largest in the Southern Alps.
The top of the Sommarel drag lift takes you the foot of Pic Ponson (2 375 m). Then cruise down « La Combe de la Truie » or the « Bonnet Rouge », both with quite a bit of off piste accesible. Then cross over to the snowpark under the Festoure chair lift and enjoy its banked corners and moguls before heading down a gentle blue back to either resort.
The lift system is modern and efficient with a focus on “skis on feet” as much as possible. 23 ski lifts, and four chairlifts transport you around the area and each is equipped with ‘hands free’ technology so you don’t have to go looking for your pass at each lift. In addition 30 km of the pistes are covered by snow canons ensuring you that you can always get back to your resort.
Ski lessons are available from ESF – The Ecole de Ski Francais, in both resorts with lessons starting on a Sunday or a Monday. There are few other resorts where you can progress as quickly, as the area has pistes for all abilities.
Le Pierra, at 2500 m, is the highest point above the resorts that you can get to by drag lift. The view from the top is amazing, you feel on top of the world. Look out over the valley, then on the summits around: Grand Ferrand (2759 m), L’Obiou (2790 m), Les Crêtes de Farraud (Tête de Claudel 2563m) to name a few, and further into the distance and even bigger “Barre des Ecrins” at over 3000m.
